Platform on Cauvery bridge falls, woman dies
Two women devotees on a padayatra to the Samayapuram Mariamman temple fell on the dry Cauvery riverbed from the Old Cauvery bridge late on Monday night after the bridge platform on which they were walking collapsed suddenly.

A 48-year-old woman was killed in the incident, while her daughter sustained severe fractures. S Lalitha (48) and her daughter S Monika (20) of Ariyamangalam block undertook the padayatra along with other devotees in the night, thinking they would reach the temple by morning.Â
Around 11.30 pm, they reached the Oyamari Bridge on the Chennai National Highway. While they were walking on the pedestrian platform, it broke and the women fell on the riverbed.
