Nirmala Devi case: Tamilisai defends Purohit’s action
BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan on Tuesday denied the charges against her party’s national general secretary Muralidhar Rao on the Cauvery issue and those on Governor Banwarilal Purohit on the Nirmala devi case.

Speaking to reporters after garlanding the statue of freedom fighter Dheeran Chinnamalai at Guindy, she said the Governor had all the powers to form a committee to look into a case related to the University. She said complaints centred around Madurai Kamaraj University and Governor as the Chancellor of all the Universities could form such a panel to enquire into the case.
Flaying the charges of DMK working president MK Stalin that the Governor did not have the powers to appoint an enquiry committee, she asked, “If Governor did not have any power or the Governor should not do anything, why is Stalin meeting him with various demands?” Whenever the Governor did anything good, there are opposition to his action, she added.
On the remarks of her party’s national general secretary Muralidhar Rao on Cauvery, she said it had been distorted. He had clearly stated that the BJP would protect the interests of farmers in both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
