While people from all walks of life had undertaken protests across the state for the CMB, a section of farmers led by Ayyakannu, state president of the Desiya Thennindiya NadigalInaippu Vivasayigal Sangam, who is known for novel protests, gathered at the crematorium around 10 30 am and lay down at the cremation spot. They said the protest was for establishing the CMB immediately.

After 11 am, a group of people who cremated their relatives on Monday reached there for rituals and were surprised to see the farmers there. After they alerted the police, a team rushed to the spot and asked the farmers to leave. But the protest continued with the farmers saying they won’t trouble anyone. The police, however, again appealed to the farmers.

When they continued with their protest, the police forcibly removed them after two hours.

While leaving the crematorium, Ayyakannu said the Centre has been treating the farmers as ‘dead’ and so they continued to pretend to be dead. He added that the farmers will hold a protest near the Prime Minister’s house in New Delhi if the CMB is not formed by May 3. The protest will be an indefinite one, Ayyakannu warned.
