More than 20,000 schools were provided computers to enhance the ICT scheme. As the government also plans to expand its smart school projects, the more number of admissions are expected this year.Â
A senior school education department official said on Monday that teachers are being trained in ICT through three stages. In the first stage, they are taught the basics of computers which included how to operate a computer, store, retrieve and manage data, troubleshoot basic storage and others. They are also taught how to connect to the internet, use e-mail and web surfing and use search engines.Â
In stage two, the teachers are trained in creating and managing content using a variety of software applications and digital devices, using web sites and search engines to locate, retrieve and manage content, tools and resources, install, uninstall and troubleshoot simple software applications.Â
In the last stage, training is provided on different software applications, database applications, analysis of data and problem solving, computing, design, graphical and audio-visual communication.Â
The ICT in Education curriculum broadly attempts to strengthen the teachers so that they can effectively use ICT tools and devices in their classes. Officials also said that the teachers are also being trained to manage ICT in the school and function as coordinators for organising capacity building programmes.
