State multilateral in approach to CMB: Fisheries Minister
Asserting that the state was consulting all stakeholders on the Cauvery water sharing problem, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar on Sunday exuded confidence that the Supreme Court would bring the dispute to a finality and reaffirm the state’s rights on the issue.

Jayakumar was responding to the allegations of CPI leader R Mutharasan about the state acting unilaterally on the issue.
The Minister said the state had unanimously passed resolutions at the all-party meeting which also comprised farmers and the subsequent special sitting of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly (TNLA) to ensure the livelihood of farmers. “The State’s been towing the same line since former CM J Jayalalithaa’s time. All this wouldn’t have happened if the water sharing agreement was renewed by the then DMK regime,” Jayakumar added. Reiterating that the ‘scheme’ mentioned in the top court refers only to the orders of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal, the Minister said that the Centre can go back to the dictionary if they wanted clarification.
