Data available with the department showed that the online system evoked a good response among the public. Further, the number of document registrations had not gone down.

“Going by the data, a total of 3.31 lakh documents were registered between February 13 and April 10, 2017. After the online system was introduced on February 12, 2018, there were 3.26 lakh document registrations between February 13 and April 10, 2018,” it showed. Interestingly, the revenue generated before the online system, for the period between February 13, and April 10, 2017 was 1,086.76 crore. However, a total of 1,262.07 crore had been collected in the corresponding period this year.

“This is adequate to show that the public are registering the documents without any hassle in the new software STAR 2.0 and we are imparting periodic training to all the stakeholders. Moreover, the feedback received from the public is also being seriously noted,” said an official. Major feedback for simplification of the system, received from the public, was being incorporated in the system, he said. The pre-verification process was eliminated on the basis of user feedback, he said. “As far as software development is concerned, the team has been asked to carry out the above changes. An interim system without the pre-verification process will be in place in a month,” a senior official, seeking anonymity, said.

The department will always be open to inputs from all stakeholders to simplify the software as well as to provide new features. This would improve the interface and make it more user-friendly, he added.

There were protests by the public in front of all the registration offices across the city in February due to glitches experienced while using e new online system.
