Tamil New Year: Ploughing begins in Tiruchy
On the occasion of ‘Chithirai Pattam’, farmers in Tiruchy district started ploughing their fields with fervour on Saturday, which marked the start of the Tamil New Year.

On the auspicious occasion, devotees also thronged various temples in the city. The car festival, celebrated in the Woraiyur Vekkali Amman temple on Saturday, attracted thousands of devotees from various parts of the district.
With many people dressed in red and yellow attire thronging the roads in Woraiyur, the massive Vekkaliamman temple car slowly moved around the temple. As it was a special day, people were seen offering special prayers and were involved in various rituals right from the morning. Due to the demand from devotees, both flower and fruits prices had skyrocketed.
Similarly, other temples across the district also celebrated the arrival of Tamil month ‘Chithirai’.
