MDMK leader Vaiko's kin attempts self immolation on Cauvery issue

Police said R.Saravana Suresh, son of MDMK General Secretary Vaiko's brother-in-law doused himself with petrol and set himself ablaze near the district stadium, close to the Madurai-Virudhunagar National Highway after shouting slogans demanding the Centre to constitute the Cauvery Management Board and to exempt Tamil Nadu from the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) exams.

He was rescued and admitted to the government hospital with 80 per cent burn injuries and later shifted to Apollo Hospital in Madurai.  His condition was said to be 'very critical'.

His family members claimed that he was in a depressed mood for the past few days on the Cauvery issue.
