Tiruvannamalai
Collector KS Kandasamy lit a lamp to mark the inauguration at a new building adjacent to the Arani PWD office. The new division will include Arani, Polur, Kalasapakkam taluks and the newly formed Jamunamarathur taluk, officials said.
Meanwhile, few women affiliated to the All India Agricultural Workers Union staged a protest in front of the Arani BDO office, as officials prevented them from submitting a petition which demanded implementation of the extended employment scheme. The scheme was recently extended from 100 to 150 days. The women also demanded that they be given employment under the scheme.Â
