Members of Tamil Nadu Jallikattu Veeravilayattu Meetpu Kazhagam led by the state president T Rajesh organised a protest on the Cauvery bed and raised slogans against the Centre and demanded the immediate establishment of the CMB. “Once full of water, the Cauvery appears like a desert,” Rajesh told reporters.

He said, only when the agriculture activities are on full swing, the entire region would celebrate and there will be festivals too and so there will be jallikattu. Rajesh also said that only CMB can save Tamil Nadu farmers.

“This is just a beginning we will continue to protest until the CMB is established. We will organise a mega meeting with a mass gathering of the farmers,” he added. Suddenly the group started to plough the river bed with the jallikattu bulls.

On information, the Fort police rushed to the spot and held talks with the agitating youth.

But they refused to abandon the protests and continued on. Later, finding no other go, the police arrested as many as 20 youth.
