    Manufacture light combat aircraft in TN, CM tells Centre

    Chief Minister K Palaniswamy on Thursday urged the central government to set up a manufacturing facility for light combat aircrafts (LCA) by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Salem and to establish a defence MRO complex in Chennai.

    The CM said that the state is coming up with an exclusive aerospace and defence policy to achieve 25 per cent share in the country’s defence sector in terms of products and services. Reiterating the state government’s commitment towards meeting the country’s defence needs, Palaniswamy said, “We will support defence forces by providing them the means to protect our border effectively,” he said. “For this, we have worked out a business facilitation act to ensure timely clearance and ease of doing business in the state,” the CM added. 
    Palaniswamy also pointed out that the government with extend all required support towards the upcoming defence quad in TN which will connect defence manufacturing clusters such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchy, Salem and Hosur. “The government will provide proper road connectivity, full power supply and other infrastructure requirements for this,” Palaniswamy.
    He also claimed that the proposed Chennai Aerospace and Defence Park — expected to come up on a 250-acre land in Sriperunbudur — will create over one lakh jobs. 
    Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam said that Tamil Nadu is a good choice for the development of a defence corridor with its infrastructure and easy availability of human resources. He added that the government has rolled out a number of initiatives to ease doing business. “The Housing and Urban Development Department will give industrial planning permissions on a single window basis within 30 days. We will also launch, an online single window planning permission, for all types of applicants in the state, within two months,” he said.
