    Several government buses damaged in protests

    Window panes of several buses were damaged in protests organised by Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) in the western districts to condemn the failure of the state and central governments in forming the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

    As many as four buses were targeted by miscreants in Dharmapuri alone. Unidentified men hurled stones on a government bus on its way to Pennagaram bus stand. The front glass window panes of the bus were shattered.

    In another incident, a bus heading to Erode from Pennagaram was targeted by miscreants when it reached Kariapatty. A group of people blocked two buses bound to Pennagaram and damaged their glass panes by throwing stones.

    Similarly, stones were hurled on at least three buses at Edappadi, the home town of the Chief Minister, and on a Karnataka State Transport Corporation Bus in Punjai Puliampatti in Erode district. 

    Anticipating trouble, many private buses stayed off the road in western districts. Over 500 PMK cadre led by its leader G K Mani blocked a train at Salem railway station, while 80 persons were held for rail roko in Namakkal district. 

    In Dharmapuri district, the protesting cadre blocked trains at Dharmapuri, Morappur, Ponmudi and Palakkodu resulting in the delay of trains. Hundreds of PMK cadres were arrested in connection with the protest. Around 50 PMK men were arrested for attempting to protest at the Coimbatore railway station.
