A detailed proposal including the budget aspects has already been sent to the UGC for its approval. The financial assistance will be extended once the proposal receives approval.

Before awarding the chair, the committee of the UGC will evaluate the merit of the university, including academic resources, infrastructure, evidence of the work and research on Swami Dayanand Saraswati.

The UGC has been executing the scheme to establish chairs in the name of illustrious persons at various universities. The chairs approved by the commission include one named after Swami Dayanand Saraswati in the area ‘social awakening’.

Swami Dayanand Saraswathi, who was a religious leader of the country, founded the Arya Samaj that brought about changes in the religious perception of Hindus. Annamalai University has also proposed to impart skills to workers in unorganised sectors with special focus on vulnerable people through its Centre for Skill Development, with financial assistance from Central and State Government organisations.
