Virinjipuram police on Monday arrested two persons, who were a part of a 7-member group reportedly engaged in cutting red sanders tree near Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.
Vellore
Following a tip-off that some people were being taken to AP to cut the protected trees, police at the Vaniyambadi toll plaza flagged down a vehicle with seven persons. However, the vehicle did not stop and instead sped away resulting in the police alerting their counterparts at Ambur.Â
But, the vehicle crashed through the temporary barricade erected by the police at Ambur. Following this, the cops alerted the Pallikonda toll plaza, 20 kilometre from Vellore.Â
When it reached the toll plaza, the vehicle yet again sped away. The cops chased the speeding vehicle and finally managed to catch up with it near Virinjipuram, 16 km from Vellore.Â
Police said the vehicle which met with a minor accident had stalled, following which four of the car occupants took to their heels. However, cops managed to nab two others, identified as Krishnamurthy (32) and Sudhakar (34), both of Krishnagiri. Meanwhile, the driver managed to start the car and escaped.Â
Under interrogation, the arrested duo said they were being taken to Tirupati for construction work. When asked why they chose to run away from the police, the two persons did not give a proper answer. Police are continuing with their investigation.
