PG admission: ‘Bring Act to secure 50 per cent quota for government docs’

Service quota or 50 per cent reservation for government doctors has been denied to the government doctors due to the amendments made in Post Graduate medical admissions rules of the Medical Council of India (MCI), Dr G R Ravindranath, general secretary of DASE said. he also added that if government doctors are not getting PG seats, government hospitals will be adversely affected and it will be against a section of the population who are completely dependent on government hospitals for their medical care requirements.

Recalling the recent cases of suicides and homicides of Tamil Nadu students that have been reported from the northern parts of the country, he said that the students here are becoming more and more anxious and they hesitate to pursue PG medical courses outside the state.

While representatives from the state met the Union Health Minister regarding the issue, they were told that the state government can bring an Act to provide the reservation.

Dr Ravindranath, therefore, requested the Health Secretary to take necessary steps to bring the Act immediately.
