Thoothukudi Port handles record 14K MT cattle feed
The VO Chidambaranar Port Trust in Thoothukudi has created a new record by handling 14,800 metric tonnes (MT) of cattle feed.

The record was set by the vessel MV Meray Glyfada, surpassing the previous single day handling record of cattle feed of 10,748 metric tonnes by MV Clipper Lis, in March. Hari and Co Private Limited, Thoothukudi, was the steamer and stevedore agent and Suraj Impex (India) Private Limited, Indore, was the consignor.Â
In the last financial year, the port handled 1,38,969 metric tonnes of cattle feed and this year, it has handled 23,953 metric tonnes in one week. Cattle feed is being imported mostly from Ukraine through the port for use in poultry and cattle farms and in the oil extraction industry.Â
Jeyakumar, chairman of the Port Trust, thanked stakeholders, officers and employees of the port who had contributed to achieve the record and said that the port is continuously striving to achieve excellence in performance and productivity to attract more volume of traffic. Jeyakumar also directed the officials to continue their work to improve the performance of the port.
