The Tamil Nadu Mediation and Conciliation Center (TNMCC) will conduct mass awareness camps from April 9 to 13 throughout the state about mediation and conciliation being an effective alternative dispute resolution.
Chennai
TNMCC director P Murugan told reporters that the camps are set to be held as part of the 13th anniversary celebrations of TNMCC, which was inaugurated by the then Chief Justice of India YK Sabharawalin 2005.Â
Detailing the activities of the mediation centers in all the 32 districts of the state and one in Puducherry, he said over 300 district judges and subordinate judges have been trained as mediators till date. Along with them, as many as 974 advocates including 161 from the Madras High Court have been trained as mediators. Also, since 2005 to till date as many as 8,885 cases have been settled through mediation.Â
The awareness camps have been planned to enable the people to know about the importance of the TNMCC and to sensitise them about the concept of mediation wherein the disputing parties work with a neutral third party, the mediator, to resolve their disputes. Moreover, through mediation disputes relating to trade, commerce and contracts, disputes between suppliers and customers; disputes between bankers and customers; and cases arising from strained or soured relationships including matrimonial disputes can be settled, Murugan added.
