Even as the protests are continuing across the state for the constitution of CMB as per the apex court judgment, more than hundred students staged a flash sit-in on the banks of the Pudhu Aaru near Irwin bridge at Gandhiji Salai in Thanjavur. They squatted on the walking stretch on the southern bank of the river and raised slogans against the Union government. A few of them started to get down to the dry river bed while a few students blocked one side of the Gandiji road on the Irwin bridge.

Following this the police rushed to the spot and forcibly removed the students from the banks of the river. As many as 32 students were detained.

The remaining students took out a rally towards the Head Post office and staged road blockade in front of it. After the talks with the police, the protest was withdrawn. Meanwhile the students of the Rajah Serfoji Government Arts College continued their protest after boycotting the classes.

Meanwhile, in Coimbatore a large number of students of Government Arts College boycotted classes and staged a demonstration in front of the college. They shouted slogans condemning the state and Union governments for failing to form the CMB. The students threatened to intensify protests in the coming days by laying siege to toll gates and central government offices.
