Jayakumar puts ball in BCCI court
Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar on Friday said the government had no role in changing the schedule of the IPL matches in Chennai but added that BCCI certainly knew the situation in Tamil Nadu and they should decide if the match should be held or not.

Speaking to reporters here, the Minister said, “As far as the government is concerned, it must offer protection to any citizen seeking it. If the IPL organisers seek protection for the match, it is the duty of the state government to provide security.”
When asked about the possibility of actor Rajinikanth conducting a hunger strike on April 8, Jayakumar said, “Rajinikanth always comes with a fire engine after everything is gutted. Where was he all these days? No one will care about the actor’s protest and no one will be concerned about it.”
As far as the AIADMK is concerned, the party is following a three-pronged approach to the Cauvery issue. The party is fighting legally and the case would come up before the Supreme Court on April 9. He hoped that the apex court would come out with a positive verdict on the issue, since Tamil Nadu is only asking the court to implement its order.
The party had protested in Parliament in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it had joined the people’s protests by observing a fast. The state is on the boil over the Cauvery water dispute and people are protesting throughout the state, he said. He also assured that all democratic protests would be allowed.
However, he slammed the protests of principal opposition DMK and said the party had taken up the issue with ulterior motive. Leader of Opposition MK Stalin could not take the law into his hands and think he could sit anywhere he wanted causing inconvenience to the public.
He also said the state government is opposed to bringing petrol and diesel under GST since it would result of about Rs 30,000 crores to the state government exchequer.
