A division bench of justices TS Sivagnanam and M Seshasayee, on recording the government pleader’s submission that pursuant to the Supreme Court’s order no person is vested with the right to erect a statue in a public place or government land and on observing that the petitioner’s representation lacked particulars and relevant documents, said, “Therefore, this court is not inclined to issue any directions to dispose of the representation.”

However, the bench granted liberty to petitioner M Dhanakodi, organiser of statue panel and state deputy secretary (election) of Viduthalai Katchi, to file a fresh representation with relevant documents to the appropriate authority. Dhanakodi had submitted that Kuzhumur villagers have decided to install a bronze statue of Dr Ambedkar in the Adi Dravidar Colony area in the village and accordingly sent a representation to the Superintendent of Police, Ariyalur district, on December 8, 2017, to offer protection to install the statue. But since there was no response, he had no choice but to move the court.
