    Erode government college to get new building in 2019

    The work, which is expected to start soon, is expected to be completed within the next 12 months. The government has offered to pay bonus to the contractor company if it completed the project within the stipulated time of 12 months. 

    Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had recently announced in the Assembly that own buildings for the Erode government college would be constructed at a cost of Rs 7.9 crore. 

    Accordingly, it has been planned to build a three-storey building with all necessary facilities, including science laboratories. Special ceiling plastering will be done in all the floors and the classrooms will have ceramic steel chalk writing board. 

    Sources from the higher education department on Thursday said that at present, there were 17 teaching and 10 non-teaching staff in the college.  

    Over 100 students were on rolls pursuing various undergraduate courses such as Tamil, English, Mathematics, Commerce and Computer Science. Classes were being held at Kumudha College of Education which is situated on the outskirts of Erode. 

    As the students have to travel a long distance to reach the private college every day, the government decided to complete the construction within a year. 

    “The period of completion shall be 12 calendar months, which is inclusive of monsoon period from the date of handing over of the site to the successful contractor”, the official said. 

    To ensure timely completion of the project, the government may pay bonus if the contractor completes the work before the deadline, the official said, “if the work is completed in advance by not less than 10% of agreement period can be considered and bonus for 1% on the value of actual quantum of works executed at tendered rates will be paid”.
