Hindi overdose on radio, charges PMK
The PMK has condemned the Centre for imposing Hindi programmes in local radio stations in Tamil Nadu.
Chennai
In a statement released on Tuesday, founder-president of PMK S Ramadoss said, “It has been observed that many local radio stations in the state keep airing Hindi programmes. It is highly condemnable. The Centre is deliberately instructing the staff at the stations to broadcast Hindi-based events.”
Stating that stations such as Chennai, Tiruchy, Dharmapuri and Nagercoil had reduced Tamil programmes, he said, “Local events have gradually been reduced and Delhi-based programmes have increased. During Tamil events, Hindi advertisements are aired.”
The Centre had tried to impose Hindi programmes in 2014 and a circular was issued to broadcast them, he said. “The PMK had warned that it will agitate, if the radio stations broadcast Hindi events, following which, the Centre abandoned its decision,” Ramadoss said and added that quality Tamil events should be aired.
