Madurai Bench refuses to take suo motu plea against strike calls

When the division bench comprising Justice CT Selvam and Justice AM Basheer Ahmed commenced its proceeding on Monday, social activist KK Ramesh, appeared before the bench with this prayers. 

He said that the Supreme Court had directed the Center to form the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) before March 31 but the Union government failed to do so. 

Demanding the formation of CMB and condemning the Union government for not implementing the order of the apex court both the ruling and opposition parties had called for strike from April 3 to 5. 

Also the farmers associations and the traders associations including pharmacists had joined hands with the political parties. If the strike is implemented the normal life of the people would be crippled and even the students writing their examinations would be affected, he said. 

So, the court should interfere and take a suo moto petition against the announced protests, prayed Ramesh. However, the judges refused to interfere in the decision of the political parties and various associations to observe strike and also refused to take suo motu action.
