Knowledge-based inventions driving development: Envoy
Knowledge - based inventions are leading to the development of various countries in the world, Tanzania High Commissioner in India, Baraka Haran Luvanda, said on Monday.

Inaugurating an International Conference on Science, Engineering and Technology at VIT University, he said such conferences, in addition to creating a wealth of information, also acted as barometers for research knowledge in various countries.Â
Referring to the growth of the Internet, Luvanda said it has helped to transfer funds from one country to another and between the accounts of different persons in the same nation, without customers having to visit the bank branch. Though initially viewed with suspicion, over time, the Internet has proved to be a boon for people of all walks of life, he added.Â
Similarly, the growth and development of renewable energy sources, including wind and solar energy, had resulted in clean technologies in addition to lowering government expenditure, the High Commissioner said.Â
Earlier, Luvanda released the conference CD, in the presence of VIT University vice president GV Selvam and OP Makinde, senior professor, Department of Military Science, Stellenbosch University, South Africa and Pro Vice Chancellor S Narayanan. A total of 700 individuals from 300 universities are participating in the two-day conference.
