Justice K Ravichandrabaabu, before whom the plea came up, made it clear that the election process which has already commenced cannot be stalled and that the court must dismiss the plea as the main prayer was to stop the election. To this, the petitioner S Gnanasoundari, a member of agricultural co-operative society of Kokkaladi in Tiruvarur district, submitted that her main concern is only to get reservation for the chairperson post and not to stall the election. To avoid dismissal, she submitted that she was willing to withdraw the petition and move a fresh plea stressing the need for reservation for the post of chairperson.Â
The petitioner had contended that reserving seats for women and SC/ST for the post of directors alone will not provide adequate opportunity to the target community as envisaged in the constitution.Â
Similarly, five members of Thakkolam primary agriculture co-operative credits society has approached the high court alleging bias on part of the election officers.Â
C Ashok Kumar, Munirathnam, Selvi, Padmini, and D Balachandar submitted that elections to 18,775 cooperative societies in the state, which was notified by on March 13 was marred with largescale irregularities. The election officials even in accepting nominations were acting with an intention to favour persons associated with the ruling party. The plea is likely to be taken up for hearing on Monday.
