Sasikala’s camp begins cross examination of witnesses
The cross-examination of witnesses in the probe into the death of former CM Jayalalithaa began on Wednesday. The one-man enquiry commission headed by retired Justice A Arumughasamy had granted jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala, the right to cross-examine those who had deposed before the commission. The order was issued on January 30.

Sasikala’s counsel Raja Senthoor Pandian was to cross-examine seven government doctors on Wednesday. However, he had appealed to the enquiry commission for a change in the date citing commitments in the Supreme Court on the issue of the party symbol of Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dhinakaran.
The commission had rebuked the Sasikala faction for the request and insisted that at least two doctors be cross-examined on the scheduled date. According to these orders, Dr Narayana Babu, dean of Omandurar Medical College, and Dr Vimala, director of Omandurar Medical College, appeared before the commission on Wednesday at Kalas Mahal. They were questioned by junior counsel Aravindan, Subramanian and Subramaniam due to Raja Senthoor Pandian’s commitments in Delhi.
The remaining 13 people, including five doctors, who were to be cross-examined on Wednesday are expected to be called by the Sasikala camp on April 4 and 5.
The commission has been enquiring with politicians, bureaucrats, relatives of Sasikala and workers who were associated with her, about the former CM’s death.
Earlier in March, additional Director General of Police (Crimes) Amaresh Pujari had appeared before the Commission. Former Chennai Commissioner of Police and current DGP, Tripathy had appeared before the probe panel.
