CPI calls for ‘war’ against neo-liberal economic policies

The struggle against communalism and neo-liberal economic policies should not become a clash between each other, but different fronts must be opened simultaneously to face both the issues, said S Sudhakar Reddy, national general secretary of the CPI here on Wednesday.

Inaugurating the 24th state conference of the CPI at Mannargudi, the leader told the party cadre that electoral tactics should not be confused with the fight against communalism as it would differ from state to state.

He said the Left parties should work with the main aim of liberating the country from the clutches of the sangh parivar. “If this cannot be achieved by the Left parties alone, they must be ready to join hands with other like-minded outfits to create a bigger platform to defeat the RSS and BJP,” he added.

Stating that the Left was worried over the increasing rate of farmers’ suicide, Sudhakar Reddy said the income of the agricultural labourers was dwindling fast. “As much as 93 per cent of the workers are in the unorganised sector and they lack social, job and wage security. To help these sections, there is an urgent need for us to unite and struggle against the neo-liberal economic policies,” he said.

On the political situation in Tamil Nadu, he said that those who indulged in corruption had come together to rule and the BJP had been blackmailing them. “Ministers have been acting as the agents of the BJP which has been implementing its agenda in the state”, he charged.

G Palanichamy, former CPI MLA, presided over the conclave.

D Raja, national secretary of the party, K Balakrishnan, state secretary of CPM, S Kumarasamy of CPI(ML) Liberation, veteran CPI leaders R Nallakannu and D Pandian were among who participated.
