Moving the resolution in the house, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy maintained that the contention of AIADMK legislature party leader A Anbazhagan that he (CM) was functioning in support of the Congress government in Karnataka was absolutely wrong.

The CM said he had repeatedly stated that the welfare of Karaikal farmers was more important to him than the Karnataka government.

If the CMB was not constituted within the time frame set, the government’s lawyer would move the Supreme Court. He also said the BJP led NDA government at the Centre and Karnataka government were not respecting the Supreme Court judgement.

In Tamil Nadu, DMK working president MK Stalin had called for an agitation to press the setting up of the CMB. He said Puducherry had taken up the matter with the Prime Minister when he visited Puducherry.

Replying to an intervention from Anbazhagan, the Chief Minister said he was ready to table the letter given to the prime minister in the assembly. Taking exception to reports that supervising committees were being set up, Narayansamy said no institution other than the CMB would be accepted.

Later, the resolution tabled by Anbazhagan, DMK member R Siva and the government was passed unanimously by voice vote.
