“Officials from the Education department said that resource persons would be appointed in every district to train the teachers. Ten training centres will be created in each district where teachers will be coached on the new aspects of the curriculum so that they do not face problems while teaching the students.

Students of Classes 1, 6, 9 and 11 will receive their newly revised text books in the next academic year. The government hopes that the revamped curriculum will help students’ crack competitive exams. “The books are being printed now and the work will be over by the third week of April, a senior official from Education Department told DT Next on Monday”. “The resource persons appointed will train the teachers about the new content. And the sessions will be wrapped up by the end of May, before schools reopen” he added.

Meanwhile, city schools have begun preparing for the sessions. “We are expecting the call shortly. We are prepared for the training sessions,” PK Ilamaran, a class teacher from Chennai High School in Kodugaiyur, said.

He added that the school authorities had given the teachers clear instructions that it was compulsory for them to attend the sessions.
