Tamil Nadu kids to learn ‘Science on a sphere’ with 3D effect
In a bid to make school students aware on complex environmental processes across the globe, the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre has decided to install a state-of-the-art facility educational tool called Science On a Sphere earth visualisation
Chennai
The proposed spherical projection system will display an animated earth which includes land, oceans and atmosphere. “It is an animated globe. It will be an effective tool to not only decipher earth’s atmosphere but also the flora and fauna around the world,” Dr P Iyamperumal, Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre Executive Director told DT Next on Saturday.
According to him, Science on a sphere earth visualisation (Spherical hard-shell Screen) is a room sized, global display system that uses computers and video projectors to display planetary data onto a six feet diameter sphere, analogous to a giant animated globe integrated by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The system will be installed at Periyar Science and Technology Centre, Gandhimandapam Road, in a specially designed and climatically controlled room which can accommodate 70 students or visitors at a time.
