Notice to state on rules for all-party meet invite
The Madras High Court has ordered notice to the state on a plea seeking the government to frame necessary rules for inviting participants at all-party meetings.
Chennai
Justice K Ravichandrabaabu, before whom the petition moved by Tamizhaga Murpokku Makkal Katchi secretary V Vijayakumar came up for hearing, ordered notice, returnable by four weeks.Â
The petitioner had contended that after the Supreme Court verdict on the Cauvery water dispute, the Tamil Nadu government called for an all-party meeting to discuss the future course of action on the judgment on February 22 at the Secretariat.Â
Noting that though his party was eager to participate and to express its views, there was no invitation, he said it was surprising to note that the state government had invited the participants without any norms and criteria resulting in about 35 political parties and 14 farmers associations participating in it. Of them, most of the parties had not contested any election in the recent past and religious leaders were also invited for the meeting.Â
Therefore, the petitioner party sent a representation to the state to furnish details relating to norms and procedures adopted by it to invite the participants. But, there was no response, the petitioner added.Â
