Misra reached Theni on Wednesday night, and on Thursday morning began trekking in the Kurangani hills. After two hours, Misra reached Kurangani and from there he continued trekking to Kozhukumalai for two more hours.Â
During his visit to the hills, he inquired with Forest Department officials about the nature of the forest and the details about the forest fire such as from where it spread and for how many days the fire was raging in the jungles. Following it, he addressed the media and said he has two months to investigate the incident and file a comprehensive report on the incident.Â
He will also inquire with the locals about the fire in the coming days, said Misra.Â
The state government and the Forest Department were widely blamed for the incident and the government appointed Misra to investigate the incident. The incident happened on March 11 when two groups of trekkers were caught in the wildfire, at Kozhukumalai in Kurangani hills, near Bodinayakanur.
