The opposition AIADMK in Puducherry took strong exception to Lt Governor Kiran Bedi holding meetings with government officials every day at Raj Nivas here to discuss public issues by "keeping the elected ministry at bay."

Addressing reporters, the AIADMK legislature wing leader A Anbalagan said the Lt Governor has been discussing issues relating to cooperative banks, admission of students to professional colleges among others keeping the elected ministry at bay.

He said the forthcoming session of the Assembly should be conducted for at least 20 days so that elected members could discuss people's issues.

"The session is likely to be held for three days with the customary address by Lt Governor on March 26. There would be a debate on motion of thanks to Lt Governor's address on the subsequent two days."

"These restricted days of meeting would be of no help to the members to discuss farmers issues, students grievances and also other hardships faced by the people," he pointed out.

Puducherry was now witnessing a situation where the elected government is "superseded" by Lt Governor to handle people's issues, Anbalagan claimed.

"If the Lt Governor gains upper hand in the administration it is basically because of the weak ministry and the attitude of the ministers to surrender before the Lt Governor," Anbalagan alleged and urged the ministers to assert their rights and prerogatives.
