‘Cops can only set conditions for marches’
Noting that the police simply can’t refuse permission for a procession and can only impose conditions, the Madras High Court on Tuesday directed the additional public prosecutor (APP) to inform the court on the conditions planned to be imposed on a ‘march for secularism’ planned by People’s Platform Against Fascism between March 21 and 30.

When a plea moved by a final year law college girl student seeking to accord protection to the ‘voyage’ and permit them to use microphone and speakers in the canter used in the voyage, came up before Justice MS Ramesh, the APP submitted that the police do not want to give permission for the march.
Observing that the police can’t refuse permission, the judge said they may impose conditions and directed the APP to submit by March 22, the conditions they planned to impose and posted the matter for further hearing on the same day.
Law student M Sreela had submitted that since March 23 is the anniversary of freedom fighters Bhagath Singh, Rajaguru and Sukdev, it was decided to commemorate it by undertaking a rally across Tamil Nadu and hold public meetings in each city.
