Notice to DGHS on PG weightage marks for doctors
The Madras High Court has ordered notice on a plea seeking to direct the Director General of Health Services to comply with the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations while awarding weightage marks for service rendered in remote/difficult areas and for reserving 50 per cent of seats in Post Graduate Diploma Courses for eligible medical officers in government service based on PG NEET 2018.

Justice R Mahadevan, before whom the petitions filed by Dr C Sudhan and six others came up for hearing, adjourned it to March 22, after advocate VP Raman took notice for Medical Council of India.Â
Petitioners’ counsel G Sankaran submitted that the petitioners were serving in remote/ difficult areas as notified by the state and thereby they were entitled for weightage marks as per Regulation 9 (IV) of PG Regulations 2000, for seeking admission in All India Quota seats.Â
Also, when 9 (VII) of PG Regulations provides for 50 per cent seats in PG Diploma course for medical officers in government service, who has served at least 3 years in remote/difficult areas, the same has not been complied with by the DGHS for admission in All India Quota seats, he added.
