Fishermen stranded in Arabian sea rescued
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has rescued 12 fishermen on a mechanised fishing boat that was stranded in Arabian Sea off the coast of Karnataka, on Thursday.
Madurai
The fishermen went to fishing from Beipur in Kerala in a boat, Natha Fathima on February 28. In the boat, there were 12 fishermen, eight from Kanniyakumari district and four from West Bengal. When they were fishing in the Arabian sea they received the cyclone warning and they were informed that the cyclone was heading towards Maldives.
Following that the boat started sailing towards the coast and when it was nearing the coast the boat had hit a rock and developed a technical snag. Because of the snag the boat was left stranded in the mid sea, 13 nautical miles off the coast of Munneswaram near Garwar, in Karnataka
Though the fishermen in the boat contacted the fellow fishermen fishing nearby and tried to pull the boat to the coast the boat could not be pulled. Following that ICG was informed and they rushed to the spot to rescue the fishermen. Initially they too failed in the rescue operation but later with the help of ICG ship Aburbha-249 the boat was rescued and was taken to Malpe harbour in Karnataka.
