Secretariat staff on flash strike to press demand

Members of the Tamil Nadu Secretariat Association resorted to a demonstration at the state Secretariat pressing a 12-point charter of demands including the payment of the denied arrears arising out of the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission last year.

During the lunch hour protest, the association called for the reinstatement of the old pension scheme instead of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), which is in vogue now.

As regards to the arrears, they pointed out that the revision effected by the government last year ahead of Deepavali had come into effect ‘notionally’ from January 1, 2016 and the monetary benefits had taken effect from October 1, 2017.

Peter Anthonysamy, president of the association, observed that such an implementation denies the arrears the employees are eligible to get for 21 months.

“It is imperative that the state makes necessary amendments to the revision notifications and takes steps to pay up the arrears,” he said.

He also urged the state to scrap new pension scheme and to fill vacancies. The protesters said they would stage a similar demo on Tuesday as well.
