Another 2,000 water bodies to be desilted
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday said that the ‘kudimaramathu’ scheme will be extended to 2,000 more water bodies (lakes and ponds) at a cost of Rs 300 crore in the state.

Speaking in Salem after distributing Amma two-wheelers and financial aid, the Chief Minister said that the Mettur dam holds up to 15 more tmc of water after it was deepened by desilting.
“Farmers were again given permission to remove silt from Mettur dam, which was not desilted for about 84 years. It helps to save more water,” he said.
Further, he said desilting works under ‘kudimaramathu’ scheme in 1,535 lakes have been completed and following demands, about Rs 300 crore has been sanctioned to carry out the project in 2,000 more lakes.
To overcome water scarcity in summer, the CM said that Rs 1,000 crore has been earmarked for constructing check dams in three years.
