Youth sentenced to death for murder of couple

A lower court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for raping and murdering a 21-year-old woman, and for also killing her lover in 2011. 

Principal District and Sessions Judge, Theni S Senthil Kumaresan, pronounced the death sentence to Diwakar (22) for murdering G.Kasthuri and also awarded two life terms to him for murdering the girl and her lover, 21-year-old T Ezhil Muthalvan. 

According to the prosecution, Diwakar hacked Ezhil Muthalvan to death, when the latter was speaking to his lover Kasthuri at an isolated location in Suruli forest area in Theni district on May 19, 2011. Later, he raped Kasthuri and murdered her. The bodies of Ezhil Muthalvan and Kasthuri were recovered by the forest personnel, the next day. 

Rayappanpatti police registered a case and arrested Diwakar for the rape and murder of the young love-smitten couple.
