A 24-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday for killing her seven-year-old son by throwing him into a well in Salem district. She did so after her lover promised to marry her if she murdered two of her children. The incident occurred on March 5 and later, Mayinavathi, the wife of a weaver from Attayampatty pretended that her son had gone missing. She told her husband that the child, Sasikumar, was playing in front of the house before he went missing.
The husband, Manikandan, then looked for the boy and being unable to find him, approached the police. While the police were questioning Mayinavathi, she gave contradictory replies and on further interrogation, confessed to the crime. She told the police that she had an affair with one of her husband’s friends called Devraj, 24.
“Devaraj promised to marry her, if she killed her kids, SasiKumar and three-year-old Akilan. So she dumped her elder son into the well on March 5 around 7.30 am and pretended that he went missing,” a police officer said. The police recovered the boy’s body from the well and sent it for post mortem examination at Salem Government Hospital and a search is for Devraj, who is on the run.
