Man posing as government official held in Erode
A 32-year old man, who posed as a government official and collected money from people in Erode district promising to help them get government funds, was arrested on Tuesday.

Police said A Balamurugan, a native of Mettur, introduced himself as a government officer to several residents of Mosikeeranar Street in Karungalpalayam and sought their Aadhaar card promising them to get financial assistance under various schemes.Â
Meanwhile, Megaboob Nisha (59) of Jinna Street came there and identified Balamurugan to have cheated her a month ago. She alleged that he took Rs 5,000 from her promising to get financial assistance through a scheme for widows.Â
After receiving the money on January 6, Balamurugan went missing, Nisha added. Following this, the villagers caught him red handed and informed the local police. Based on a complaint from Megaboob Nisha, police registered a case and arrested Balamurugan.
