Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday asked senior IPS officials to fix accountability on policemen for the sale of banned gutkha, drugs in their jurisdiction.
Sale of such products along with lottery tickets and practise of online lottery were threats to the society, said Palaniswami in his opening address at a conference.
Reasoning that such products and practises would only wreak havoc in the lives of youngsters, the CM sought strict deterrents. “If the top police officers find prevalence of such contrabands in their jurisdiction, they should fix accountability on the policemen in the respective police stations, and necessitate actions on them,” Palaniswami said.
The CM insisted the District Police Superintendents and Collectors work in tandem, and the police officials provide necessary updates to the Collectors to ensure that the administration runs smoothly. Speaking about terrorism, communalism and left-wing extremism, the CM said that all efforts should be made that they do not rear their heads in state.
