Chennai
As many as 1,94,187 candidates from Class 10 will write the tests and 71,442 students for Class 12.
For Class 10 students, the examination will be held between March 5 and April 13 while for Class 12, the dates are between March 5 and April 4. The Class 10 exams have been reintroduced from this year after the Centre decided to do away with the Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation (CCE) followed earlier. In addition, CBSE has decided to relax pass marks of candidates of the tenth standard from 2018.
Accordingly, the current batch of Class 10 with five main subjects (having 20 marks as internal assessment component as per scheme of studies) may be exempted from the mandatory separate pass criteria in the subjects having component of 20 marks internal assessment and Board examination of 80 marks. According to a CBSE circular, candidates need to secure an overall 33 % (both taken together) in the subject to be able to pass in that particular subject.
In Chennai, the examinations for Class 10 students will be held in 684 schools and Class 12 examinations will be held in 510 venues. “The board has made appropriate arrangements with the state authorities and local police to ensure trouble-free examinations,” a CBSE communique said.
Diabetic candidates can carry eatables with them to the examination centres.
