Renuka seeks tabling of women’s Bill in current budget session

Recalling her stand-off with the PM, Renuka, speaking at the women’s day function organised by the DMK women’s wing leader Kanimozhi in the city on Sunday, said, “I asked him (PM) if there was any GST for laughing. He had no reply. He is calling me Soorpanaka. I thank him for the compliment.”

“Soorpanaka had the courage to tell what she wanted. She said she respects Rama. What did Seetha get? Rama only wanted vote bank. After agnipariksha, he left her,” the Congress Rajya Sabha MP added. Seconding her views, DMK working president MK Stalin said, “Laughter has a value. Former chief minister O Panneerselvam smiled at me. So did I, but he lost his job. Renuka has laughed at Modi. I wonder what will happen to him.  I like to appreciate Renuka and salute her on your behalf,” as the jam packed auditorium exploded in laughter, including Renuka and Kanimozhi on dais.

Renuka, who accused Modi of reducing the life’s saving money of women to old newspaper overnight, wondered in Tamil, “ethukku demonetisation (why demonetisation),” before adding that the BJP was anti-women and anti-poor. “When women ask for equal recognition, we are not begging. We only demand our Constitutional rights.  We are already equal. We want the government to recognise that,” the former union minister added, asking the women to use the bangles they wear as weapons to fight the evil in front of them.

Stalin, who praised the successful manner in which his sister Kanimozhi wriggled out of the 2G case said, “Women would soon get reservation in Parliament and a situation will arise when we (men) would need reservation. Whether you (women) expect or not, we are looking forward to ensuring reservation for women in Parliament. I ask Modi through Renuka Chowdry to table the Women Reservation Bill in the budget session of the Parliament which begins on Monday.”
