    Unable to cope with new environment, student ends life

    A first year student committed suicide by hanging himself in his college hostel at Thuraiyur here on Friday apparently unable to cope with the new atmosphere.

    A Thamarai Selvan (20) of Puthupattu village in Villupuram district was pursuing BCom at Nehru Memorial College, Thuraiyur, and was staying in the college hostel. 

    On Friday, when all the students had gone to college, Thamarai Selvan reportedly locked inside his room and hung himself. 

    When other students did not find Thamarai Selvan, they went in search of him and were shocked to find him hanging in his room. They immediately alerted the college administration and the police about the incident. 

    Based on the information, the police rushed to the spot and retrieved Thamarai Selvan’s body. 

    The police also recovered a suicide note in which Thamarai Selvan had reportedly written that he disliked the college atmosphere soon after he joined. 

    However, according to his interest, he chose the college and he did not inform his parents anything about it. As days passed by, Thamarai Selvan continued to dislike the college and wanted to end his life, he said in the suicide note. 

    Jeeyapuram DSP Srinivasan who visited the hostel conducted an inquiry. Later, Thamarai Selvan’s body was handed over to the parents after autopsy.
