Tiruvanamalai farmers demand more shops
In a move that took many by surprise, Tiruvannamalai Collector, KS Kandasamy, visited the farmers market located behind the Collector’s office at Vengikkal. He spent quality time interacting with both the sellers and buyers who were crowding the market.

The farmers wanted additional shops to be constructed as the common feeling was that the present 107 shops were not enough as they were used by 125 farmers, he said after interacting with them.
Much to the interest of many of the onlookers, the Collector purchased vegetables required for his household, like any other ordinary citizen. He then interacted with those who had come to the market to make purchases. In the course of his interaction, he revealed that the market had a daily turnover of Rs 6 lakh, and averaged a daily patronage of around 3,500 customers.
Speaking to the media later, he said, “The sellers wanted a tea shop and a hotel to come up nearby, while the public who spoke to me wanted parking facilities for two-wheelers. Many of them also pointed out to the need for toilets.” He also said he would take up with TNSTC the grievance of farmers that not all buses welcomed their load of green grocery, he added.
