Class 12 exams to begin from March 1
Ahead of the Class 12 board examination that is to commence on March 1, the School Education Department has set up 217 new examination centres. The new centres would ensure that students will not have to travel more than 10km to reach the nearest examination centre.

According to a circular issued by the school education department, 2,794 examination centres have been allotted in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. In all, as many as 8,66,934 students will write the exam, which will go on till April 6.Â
Compared to boys, more girls are taking the exams. Two transgender students have registered to write the exams this year, while there are also 103 prisoners among the ‘students’.Â
As part of strict arrangements that would be in place, not just students, even supervisors are not allowed to keep their mobile phones with them. Exams will start from 10 am and end at 1.15 pm. As those delayed by more than 15 minutes will not be permitted to attend, schools have advised students to reach the centre ahead of time.Â
Officials from Anna university have been appointed as special observers for the important examinations.
