Police interrupt Ansari press meet
Tension prevailed at the government circuit house in Madurai as police barged into the room where independent MLA Thameemun Ansari was addressing the media citing the absence of permission to conduct a press meet on Sunday.

According to sources, Ansari had obtained permission only to stay in the circuit house and a separate permission had to be obtained to address the media there. As it was not obtained police intervened and asked him to stop it.Â
Deputy Commissioner Sasi Mohan along with more than 50 police personnel was present outside the circuit house and because of the presence of a large number of policemen there was mild tension. However, Ansari saved the situation by seeking an apology from the Revenue and Police officials as his newly appointed district secretary was unaware of the procedures.Â
However, the police department filed an FIR against Ansari at Tallakulam station under four sections for not obtaining permission to address the reporters. But his supporters were enraged as they claimed that the action of the police is mainly because Ansari had distanced himself from the ruling AIADMK government and termed the police action as vendetta.Â
Earlier, at the press meet, Ansari criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the Cauvery issue and said that Modi is silent mainly because of the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections.Â
He also said that the all-party meeting held on the Cauvery issue is a healthy trend in state politics and the decision to meet Modi to stress for setting up Cauvery Management Board (CMB) is a welcome decision. He also said that the PM should not postpone the meeting with members of Tamil Nadu all party delegation.Â
He stated that the Cauvery delta is already affected by drought and so Tamil Nadu should be announced as drought-hit. The Union government should release funds for the state to counter the drought, added Ansari.
