Gadkari allots 10k cr for Salem expressway
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami presented three memorandums to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari demanding to set up Cauvery Management Board (CMB) and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) among other development projects on Sunday.

The Chief Minister also submitted a separate memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the state’s development projects, when he bade farewell to the PM. However, the details of the memorandum were not made public. As regards the representations made to Gadkari, who holds portfolios of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, the CM stressed on the need to form the CMB.
He also urged Gadkari to tweak the proposed scheme of transferring water from Godavari to the state and a credit of 125 TMC ft at Grand Anaicut. “As per the technical feasibility study a maximum credit of only 57 TMC ft at Grand Anicut is suggested in the Godavari (Akinepalli) – Cauvery (Grand Anicut) scheme,” EPS noted.
On Road Transport, the CM sought the Union Minister to form a Green Expressway Corridor between Salem and Chennai under ‘Bharatmala Pariyojana.’ The Union Minister announced the construction of the road at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore. He was speaking to reporters in the presence of Palaniswami after holding a review meeting of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects in TN.
“The union transport department has allocated Rs 4,800 crore for taking up road widening and repair works in the state. Further, work on the Port-Maduravoyal project is in full swing and will take off soon after getting necessary clearance from the state,” the Minister said.
Gadkari pointed out that land acquisition for Chennai- Bengaluru Expressway is likely to be over soon. “Land acquisition process is over in Karnataka, while it is pending in Tamil Nadu,” the Minister added.
