Governor inaugurates 61st Police Duty Meet

He was inaugurating the 61st All India Police Duty Meet at Tamil Nadu Police Academy (TNPA), at Vandalur on Saturday. 

“Gone are the days when criminals were restricted to one area and a particular modus operandi. Now they are travelling across state and national boundaries. We have been a witness to sophisticated crimes committed with the help of technology. There is an increased threat to national security from various elements. Continued training and upgrading of professional skill of police forces are imperative in current times of rapid change,” said the Governor. 

To modernise the police force, the Centre has launched an umbrella scheme with an outlay of Rs 25,060 crore for the three year period up to 2019-20, he added. 

Commending the meet, he said such events would help personnel develop skills, and share knowledge and expertise with other forces. 

The annual meet is being hosted for the sixth time by Tamil Nadu police after 2006. About 1,400 police personnel from 21 states, four union territories, and seven central armed forces will participate in competitions such as scientific aides for investigation, computer awareness, anti-sabotage check, police photography and videography, and police dog competition. The five day meet will end on February 28.
